Life Needs Balance
was our most complex sculpture
todate. Each cube was fabricated by hand. All corners are
mitered and TIG welded inside and out. All of the
external welds have been polished smooth. We left the
interior welds to show the hand made details. We used
heat treated Stainless Steel for strength. After the 4 cubes were built, we concentrated on the base. The bottom plate is 1 inch thick solid steel. We chose this for stability. We then designed the I-Beam section to securely cradle the first cube. The fun part was assembling the 4 cubes on top of the base. Each had to be perfectly balanced, and still be visually interesting. The center cubes interlock and the top cube appears to be floating. Life Needs Balance is a very special sculpture and has a lot of our blood, sweat, and tears in it. |
